Applications are currently open for candidates who have the required qualifications and experience to be appointed as a Deputy Director-General of the Climate Change and Air Quality Management in the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in Pretoria. A salary of R1 521 591 per annum will be paid to the successful candidate (An all-inclusive annual remuneration package). A basic salary (70 percent of the package), the State’s 11 contribution to the Government Employee Pension Fund (13 percent of the basic income), and a flexible part that can be adjusted according to the individual’s own needs make up the remuneration package.
REQUIREMENTS
An undergraduate degree in environmental science or management and a postgraduate degree (NQF level 8) recognized by SAQA are required. Extensive knowledge and experience in the field. Applicants must have a minimum of 8-10 years of senior management experience. Environmental and development challenges on a worldwide scale are familiar to you (globally, regionally, and locally). Experience with international liaison and coordination, as well as an understanding of the priorities of the SA and the government. Capacity to manage units and plan operations, including projects and policy. Ability to negotiate with high-ranking public and private-sector executives in order to acquire government investments and opportunities.
Ability to create, interpret, and implement policies, plans, and laws. Skills in Programme and Project Management. Dedicated to customer service. Excellent planning, organizing, and leadership abilities. Understanding of HR management procedures. Ability to create, interpret, and put policies, plans, and laws into action. Communication, analytical, inventive, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities are all exceptional. Knowledge of the Treasury Regulations and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). Ability to operate under duress and for lengthy periods of time. Proof of completion of the National School of Government (NSG)-approved Senior Management Pre-entry Programme.
DUTIES
Duties include leading and/or supporting, informing, monitoring, and reporting efficient and effective national, provincial, and local climate change mitigation responses, as well as monitoring and evaluating national climate change responses to ensure informed climate change response decision-making. Lead and/or assist efficient and successful national, provincial, and local climate change adaptation responses, as well as inform, monitor, and report on them. Ensure that acceptable legislative and other measures are established, implemented, and maintained in order to protect and defend everyone’s right to safe air and atmospheric quality.
Prepare for the execution of multilateral, minilateral, and bilateral climate change agreements and reporting by planning, negotiating, and informing. Manage, facilitate, and organize the department’s international ties, engagements, and cooperation agreements in an efficient and effective manner. High-level advocacy for sustainable consumption and production is provided through the development, implementation, and maintenance of an efficient and knowledge management system. Manage the performance of the environmental sector and assist in the creation and implementation of the sector’s strategic and operational strategies.
